India to appeal after losing Solar Case against USA at WTO

Lost for following reasons

1. Domestic content requirement under her solar power programme were inconsistent with the international norms.
2. Subsidies to those developers who use domestic equipment is discriminatory
3. Forced localisation requirements restricted US exports to Indian markets.

Background of Case

• 2010: National solar policy under Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission launched
• Target now of 100,000 MW of solar power by 2022. 
• A great opportunity for US companies and thus the case as they want their share of the cake
